On Sunday 10th July, Standon Parish Council Chairman Richard Stacey hosted his second Civic Service recognising and celebrating the work that goes on in the local community and thanking those who contribute to it. .
As at the first service Parishioners were greeted with the 1st Braughing scout band, who played before the service. During the service the choir sung a special anthem and Catherine and Charlotte, two of the younger members of the choir sang a beautiful rendition of "Pie Jesu".
The address focused on the work that went on in the community and how although we are a small part of a big world we can all make a difference, using a mosquito in a tent as a comparison! (Which makes you stop and think)
The service also gave us the chance to celebrate the recent win in the Village of the Year 2011 Environment Category, for Standon and Puckeridge.
Rev'd David Payne (St Mary's Church) led the service, with prayers by Rev'd. Colin Marks (A10 Christian Fellowship).
The service was rounded off with drinks and cakes made by local parishioners.
Guests included members of the Parish Council and Clerk, neighbouring Parish Council Chairmen and representatives from the local community including Herts Police, The British Legion, Doctors, Community Centre, Village Hall, Litter Pickers, Allotments, School Crossing Patrols, Rainbows, Scouts and those who live, work and give their time to the community contributing to make the Parish such a wonderful place to live and work.
Councillor Richard Stacey Commented that the day was a wonderful way to recognise and thank those who contribute to our Parish. He and also said he would like to thank all those who helped make it such a great day and in particular he would like to thank Revd. David Payne for hosting the service.
